Product details
Tissues containing solid material such as bones or keratin are to be decalcified before paraffin embedding. Usually the specimens are treated with acids of different concentrations and mixtures.
An especially gentle method is decalcification with EDTA solution.
Decalcifier standard ready-to-use, for histology
The solution contains trichloroacetic acid and formalin and, therefore, has also fixing qualities. Nevertheless, we recommend sufficient fixing of specimens before decalcifying for trichloroacetic acid may cause morphological changes in unfixed tissue.
The length of the decalcification process depends on the specimen’s size and type. Little bones (diameter a few mm) need 1-2 days for complete decalcification.
The decalcifier standard is not suitable for immunological applications. We recommend our Decalcifier soft (Art. No. 6484) on base of EDTA.
