Instructions for use: Prepare 40 g per 1 l agar. For the cultivation of Clostridium perfringens: After autoclaving, add 2 tubes (2x2 ml) of reconstituted Clostridium perfringens additive (Art. No. CL52.1) and 25 ml egg yolk emulsion (Art. No. 0402.1).
Iron Sulfite Agar is recommended according to the standard ISO 15213 for the enumeration of sulfite-reducing bacteria and according to ISO 6461 for the detection and enumeration of the spores of sulfite-reducing anaerobes (Clostridia).

Ferric citrate and sodium disulfite serve as H2S indicators. Clostridium perfringens reduces sulfite to sulfide, which then reacts with iron to form a black iron sulfide precipitate, resulting in black colonies.
