The addition of tryptophane enables an indole test for E. coli.
A: E. coli blue (by reaction of the ß-D-Glucuronidase)
B: Other coliforms salmon-coloured (by reaction of the ß-D-galactosidase)
E. coli (blue) and Citrobacter (salmon-coloured).
